Modem is a performance piece that Datianshi and I originally created together for our live show at Queer Rope 2021 (a rope festival organised by Karada House). Since then I have always wanted to recreate the piece but see how it will evolve and change depending on the circumstances in which we perform. Modem has now grown to become a continuous project where we tie the same basic structure but allow the atmosphere, details and timing to be adjusted depending on both of our current states and the environment it is tied in.

In this case, we tied in the middle of a heatwave, the air was thick and humid making the ropes cling desperately to the skin. The heat and bright sunshine filtered through the leaves pushed me to tie faster and harder, I always find summer to be a very 'seme' season.
